Should have heeded the other reviews!!!! Went for lunch today and had the Rib lunch special. Asked for fries and fried okra with it. Also got the salad bar which was a HUGE mistake as everything looked like it had been cut last week! The cucumbers and bell peppers were already getting slimy, the white onions were a dull yellow.....and it went downhill from there. About three bites into my salad (just lettuce and that funky "plastic cheese") out comes a huge basket. Waitress sets it down and well over half the basket is fries and okra and a large piece of garlic bread. And in the bottom were three very small lukewarm ribs. These ribs were like eating rubber!!! The meat literally had to be ripped off the bone, no tenderness whatsoever! I guess all in all if you are looking for a nice wet-wipe and ketchup, this is your place!! If you are looking for BBQ, do yourself a favor and go elsewhere and save the $17 dollars that it cost me!!

We had heard a lot of good things about this BBQ joint. We ordered the special which was all-you-can-eat (sliced) pork and beef. This included a choice of three sides. The meat was succulent and the sides were tasty. Salad bar was so-so. The service was prompt and friendly. There were two sauces: house and spicy house. We left feeling extremely full and pleased. Overall nothing fancy but good BBQ at great value.

Decent brisket, great ham and cheese, ok burgere, great fried okra. Regular bbq sandwich not all that big so if hungry order the jumbo for sure. Overall, decent, not stellar but not to be avoided either.

Your level of disappointment will be significantly diminished if you understand this: their idea of barbecue is more along the lines of a fine smoked ham shaved paper thin rather than a perfectly pulled pork. If it stood in for ham on a Cuban sandwich I'd have sang its praises to anyone who'd listen. We immediately regretted stepping into this time machine to 1976 but on further inspection I found my pork sandwich (not pulled, they never claimed pulled) was pretty good. However, my wife's catfish sandwich was absolutely awful and very, very muddy tasting. The Brunswick stew was an acidic bowl of puréed pork with kernels of corn adding a refreshing spot of color to the otherwise beige mush (this is my first experience with it so who knows? Maybe it's all like that.) In the end, I'd say go in with low expectations because you'll find the service charming and the prices unbeatable. Or skip it, because I'd never go back. The beers come in small plastic steins, ice cold and cheap (in Canadian terms.)

This place was OK. Just OK. I probably wouldn't go back, but I don't regret going. I had the brisket with the salad bar and Diet Coke. The brisket was the best part - it was great. It was lean with a nice smokey flavor. The sauces they provided were pretty good, too. A little more acidic than I prefer, but still good. However, the brisket was so good I ate most of it without the sauce. The salad bar was average - the tomatoes were out of season and pale and the croutons were home made but tasted like they were cooked in bad oil. They looked beautiful - but the after taste was not pleasing at all. The rest of the vegetables looked fresh, they had real chopped eggs, and the ranch dressing was nice. The service was good, too. It felt very Mom and Pop and the people were very sweet. The price was awesome, too. Mine was under $10 and it was a decent amount of food.

Fat Boys is just a step above McDonalds. We stop there after kayaking in the Crystal River. It's local family run place that you want to be good. Service is good but not over the top friendly. I had the pulled pork sandwich and it was very average. I'll go back only because I don't know of any other restaurant in the area.

Disappointing! Small portions, so so service. Has there been a change in ownership I wonder? It's not as good as it used to be. Too bad, was a family favorite anytime we were in Crystal River.. Probably not going back.

Terrible! The best thing about this place is the salad bar, which is sad for a BBQ joint. Everything on the menu is mediocre at best. We took a party of 13 and everybody had something different with the same result - terrible! We all filled up on the salad bar, which is really good!

Terrible restaurant. Was closed for a while due to sanitary conditions in the kitchen. They do not know what BBQ is.

Mediocre food and dirty would not recommend I heard the horror stories but went with an open mind though not as bad as I've heard still not a good place to eat their food is greasy and gross the decor is out dated the bottles of ketchup and bbq sauce have no lids and are reused and crusty, the food is bland and slimy way over staffed there were 8 people standing around texting and talking while we were there and the only ones there, definitely not the best experience I've had never going back.

Fat Boys BBQ just barely squeaks by with an average three star rating, but it was a close call. Their pulled pork seemed bland, and the sides (okra, beans, collard greens, etc) were just average, but the salad bar was a step above what you'd find at comparable places. The service was prompt and friendly, which was nice, and the decor is certainly "classic" (dark wood and spare decor with a couple of taxidermy pieces thrown in). It's your basic, local mom and pop place conveniently located on your way out of town.

Got the brisket sandwich with fries. Yum! Waitress was nice and attentive when we needed her. Sweet tea was perfect!

Fat boys used to be the bomb back in the day. I can remember growing up and it being a treat to come to Fat Boys and wait in line to be seated. But something happened. Their food now is dry, old tasting and usually rubbery or tough. The salad bar is hit and miss. Sometimes it's all fresh and sometimes it's old as dirt sitting their collecting bacteria. All their sides come from a can except for the fried stuff. Giving them one star is really a compliment when coated to their level of service and quality of food.

Food is alright, atmosphere is bright, open restaurant feel. People are nice. Price is right.

Oh my goodness. The food, well, calling itself a Bar-B-Q locale, in the "south," one would expect a little more. The pulled pork, well, not very good and definitely lacking in taste. The sides seemed to come out of a can ... ugh!! The locale is a bit dated, but it was clean. However, if you ever wondered what visiting a wastewater treatment plant would be like, go to the restroom. Not very clean, smelly and just not looking very sanitary. Not pleased!

I was skeptical after pulling in and reading all the bad reviews. Food was hot and fresh. Service was great. Prices were good. My only complaint is my cup looked like it had rolled around on asphalt a few times.
